Although we've sold some of the greatest coffee beans around for a while, we are now selling coffee beverages!

Being a zero waste shop, we are thinking about it in a better way though:

Coffee:

  • The bags our coffee is delivered to us in are returned, reused and resealed

  • One cup of coffee can have a carbon footprint of up to 0.4kg of CO2!

  • It contains about 19 grams of coffee (double shot of espresso)

  • That’s about 53 drinks per kg of coffee

  • 53 coffees is about 21kg of CO2

  • A tree absorbs about 24kg of CO2.. per year!

  • We plant a tree for every kg of coffee we buy, making it carbon negative (see counter above)

  • Our used coffee grounds (the ones George doesn't take) are available to customers.. they're great for plants

Cups:

  • We encourage drinking in, bringing your own reusable or buying a reusable from us

  • If that's not possible, our single use cups are fully plastic free including the lid

  • A single use coffee cup can have a carbon footprint of 0.6kg (more than the coffee)

  • We plant a tree for every 40 single use cups we use (see counter above), and also add the cost of the cup itself to the order to help influence behaviour

  • If you buy a reusable cup from us, you get your coffee for free!

Milk:

  • Our cows milk is delivered to us in glass bottles, returned and reused

  • We offer plant based milk and having a similar glass bottle arrangement is in the works

Tea:

  • Similar to coffee, we have stocked a variety of loose leaf teas for a long time. We are looking at ways that you will be able to have a takeaway loose leaf tea.

These figures are the higher end of the spectrum (worst case) from data online.

It’s likely the products we actually use have a lower footprint, making this process even more carbon negative!
